Here are some highlights from a conversation with Stephen Darre’:
LA: This move brings you full circle to where you started your career. What factors led you to make this career choice now?
“I have had a different career path than most architects, spending a large majority of my professional career working for contractors. With my unique experience I felt it was a good time to get back into the design side of the industry where I can influence the design process with the skills I have gained from construction practices.”
LA: What are your goals for LACHIN Architects over the next few years?
“Over the next few years I would like to act as a strategic thinker within the organization, working with both new and past clients to expand the LACHIN organization to new markets. I have also been very involved in the LEAN* community and am excited to implement those tools throughout the company.”
LA: What unique strengths do you bring to LACHIN Architects? How do your personal capabilities and goals mesh with the firm?
“My unique views on LEAN principles can help to make the design process more efficient for not only the designers, but contractors that we will be working with as well. I have also spent years working with other architecture firms to aid in guiding the design process to create something within budget and easily constructible. Focusing on these aspects is just as important to a client as the aesthetics of the building.”
LA: How do you see the market for architectural services in the Gulf South in the coming years?
“The market in the Gulf South, especially in New Orleans, is always changing. It is important to work on seeing 2 or 3 years out and keeping a pulse on these changes. Knowing where and what kind of services will need to be provided is vital not only for the company, but also for our community.
LA: What factors enable a third-generation firm like LACHIN Architects to stay at the forefront of architectural practice?
“A commitment to quality in design and documentation has always been of the utmost importance to LACHIN. Their exceptional work product creates a successful project for owners that results in repeat clients. Client satisfaction is the best marketing tool you can have and gives assurance that LACHIN Architects will continue to have a quality client base for years to come.”
LA: What are your interests and passions outside of work?
“Outside of work I have a family, including my wife Claire, who works in healthcare, a 3-year-old daughter, and a son whose arrival we expect in in October. My hobby outside of work is art. I am currently focused on pen and ink sketching, and I sell prints from my Etsy store. I am also a huge Disney fan, and try to schedule trips there as often as we can.”
LA: Any additional thoughts?
“I’m excited to get started on this journey and to rejoin the LACHIN family!”
